How to Make a Difference

I've spent today putting together the November edition of the Mataura Messenger.  Its my first attempt at desktop publishing - and I have come to the conclusion that I really need a better program than Microsoft Publisher.

What are your suggestions for an inexpensive, easy-to-use desktop publishing program that will help me to create a beautiful, professional community newspaper?
